JTVOS project at SUN's Java Mobile & Embedded Developer Days
Java Mobile & Embedded Developer Days is devoted solely to the technologies of mobile and embedded Java platforms and will be a unique opportunity for application developers of intermediate and advanced skill levels, platform developers, and technical experts at tool vendors, OEMs and carriers to get introduced to the community, to join in and collaborate. CINECA will present its project JTVOS, a free interactive set top box middleware. JTVOS project is building a free (as freedom) set top box Java middleware useful for multimedia consumption and interactivity. This paper describes the aims of the project, the underlaying technologies used like the Linux Kernel and the Java Virtual Machine, the components under development on top of them like the DSMCC client or the user menu's GUI and it ends describing how all of this is already running on a PowerPC SOC with MPEG2 decoding capabilities.
